OUR STORY

NorthStar Stitches

I’ve always been drawn to anything and everything artistic and I am the happiest when I am creating something. I got that creative spark from my Mama. The fiber arts hold a special place in my heart. We both shared a love of taking ordinary string and turning it into something beautiful. She taught me so many things about the world of yarn, specifically crocheting. I lost my mother in 2015 and I spent nearly two years in a creative slump. I didn’t pick up a knitting needle, crochet hook or yarn once. When I finally did, I felt this closeness to her that I cannot begin to describe. I began to channel my passion and energy for creating beautiful handcrafted items for others to enjoy. I feel like my mother would be proud to see that you could turn your love of yarn into something to share with others across the country, that is something that in her lifetime- she would have never thought was possible.

My mother was also a lover of the outdoors. We spent one of our last summer nights together admiring the Northern Lights.

The North Star sits almost directly above the North Pole; therefore, it is a reliable gauge of North. If you find yourself lost on a clear night without a compass.

My mother is my North Star and she is my inspiration behind NorthStar Stitches.

How it all started

The start of first thing I sat down to make after my mom passed…I can still feel the emotions. I am eternally grateful for the connections and experiences that my mother gave me through teaching me to crochet and giving me a passion for creating.

“Pay attention to the things that excite you and make you feel fully and unapologetically alive. These are not random. These are indications of your soul’s highest calling.”
